My Journey
From QA Engineer to Webflow Expert
My Foundation: Corporate Quality & Business Mindset
I started my career in the U.S. corporate world in 2016 as a Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst at Wells Fargo Bank. I specifically tested a web ATM machine to ensure customers had a great experience during financial transactions like deposits, cash withdrawals, and fund transfers.
I then worked at Sony PlayStation as a QA & Design Engineer. My work was always about quality and structure; I collaborated closely with developers and designers to check design standards and test products from the user’s view.
This background naturally pushed me toward design. I was constantly interested in improving the user experience, making software easy to use and understand—the kind of experience that makes customers happy to use the product, recommend it, and become paying customers. This strategic focus ensures both the user and the business are successful.
My Pivot: Mastering Design & UI Development
Driven by this love for usability, I decided to become an expert in design. I dedicated about two years to formal training, practice, and mastery, earning a college certificate focused on User Experience (UX) design at Mission College, and completing a User Interface (UI) Design course at UC Berkeley Extension.
While working on a confidential, table-heavy enterprise-level web application project at PlayStation, I became an expert in data table design. Since I couldn't share specific details (due to an NDA), I published the complimentary article, "Data Table Design Patterns."
This collection of best practices was featured in a Bootcamp publication on Medium and has been read over 2.2K times. You can read the full article on Medium or on Linkedin.
Then I translated my design skills into development by completing a UI Development bootcamp and building a complete Design System. I share the full details of this conceptual project in my LinkedIn article, "Building Design System from Scratch in Figma."
My Expertise: Strategic Choice of Webflow
This led me to design and build my own professional portfolio. I thoroughly tested the most popular platforms—Wix, WordPress, Framer, Squarespace, and Google Sites—and realized Webflow was the most powerful low-code website builder and the best choice in the industry.
I quickly discovered that my true excitement was in the whole methodical process of UI/UX design and web development.
As a highly visual, structural, and detail-oriented person, I found that Webflow's visual development tool was exactly what I was always meant to do.
I gained this expertise by completing all courses in Webflow University and earning a Partner certification.
My Transition: From Employee to One-Person Web Business
My own portfolio was highly effective and got me 3 (three) technical interviews for a designer role. However, during that process, I realized what I truly excelled at was not in taking only the design part of the work, but the whole process from strategy planning, design, and development.
I discovered that this could be its own dedicated, separate job, and I truly love the whole process. I smoothly moved from traditional corporate work to start my own solo-business as a Website Designer and Developer.
